Founded in 1989, Parents’ Place is a non-profit Family Resource
Center serving children and young adults with special needs, their
families, caregivers, and the professionals who serve them.
Parents’ Place provides information and education to improve
knowledge so parents, caregivers, and professionals can become
empowered, allowing them to advocate for their children more
effectively. Information is provided through the warm line,
educational workshops, parent information packets, referrals to
local and national resources, access to information on the internet,
at our annual information fair & festival, and meeting one-on-one
with a family resource specialist.
You can talk one-on-one with a trained resource parent or volunteer.
Although the Warm Line does not give medical or psychological
advice, being able to talk to someone in similar circumstances and
knowing they have experienced the same feelings and needs, creates a
bond which fosters and renews strength at a time when discouragement
seems overwhelming.
Family Resource Centers are part of the California Early Start
Program which addresses the unique and individual needs of families
raising a child with a disability or who are at risk of developing a
disability. In addition, Family Empowerment Centers help families
navigate the educational system in order for each child to receive a
Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) as guaranteed in the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
As a parent, professional or concerned member of the community, you
are invited to join the Parents' Place Family Resource Center
Network Advisory Council to work with us in providing information
and family support services to both parents and professionals.
